Attack on Titan season 2, episode 6 review. (This review contains spoilers).
Centuries ago, mankind was slaughtered to near extinction by monstrous humanoid creatures called titans, forcing humans to hide in fear behind enormous concentric walls. What makes these giants truly terrifying is that their taste for human flesh is not born out of hunger but what appears to be out of pleasure. To ensure their survival, the remnants of humanity began living within defensive barriers, resulting in one hundred years without a single titan encounter. However, that fragile calm is soon shattered when a colossal titan manages to breach the supposedly impregnable outer wall, reigniting the fight for survival against the man-eating abominations.
After witnessing a horrific personal loss at the hands of the invading creatures, Eren Yeager dedicates his life to their eradication by enlisting into the Survey Corps, an elite military unit that combats the merciless humanoids outside the protection of the walls.

Episode 6 was very calm in the first part, but it quickly escalated into something so much more. The episode starts off with a quick recap of what happened in the last few episodes. They found titans attacking villages and troops were sent out to take care of the situation and seal the hole in the wall where the titans were coming from.
Krista’s group got stranded by titans when they were hiding out in some ruins and Ymir transformed into a titan to protect everyone, mainly Krista. Eren’s group soon came in, rescuing Ymir before she could get eaten and the situation calms down a bit.
The scene changes and we see everyone trying to recover from what happened. Ymir is in a coma, but fortunately not dead and everyone is waiting for the news to find out where the hole in the wall is so that they can seal it. However, when Hannes arrives with that information, he reveals that there was no hole to be found. They had been traveling to find the breech, but there was none and what’s more was that they didn’t even encounter a single titan along the way.
Confusion spreads within the group, but Hanges decides to move on and tells the others that they were leaving for another district. As Eren is about to follow, Reiner and Bertholdt stop him, and suddenly tell him that Reiner is the armour titan and Bertholdt is the Colossal titan.
I found this really weird since it was surprising they would reveal this information without any warning and without any fear of someone overhearing them. It was very sudden, but it immediately created and intense atmosphere in the plot.
Eren seems shocked as well at this information reveal, but flashes back to 12 hours before when they were talking on the subject of Annie. Apparently, Bertholdt and Reiner had come from the same village as Annie, and then they come to the conclusion that it was possible that they were titans as well. They analyzed how Reiner and Bertholdt had acted the past few days, realizing how suspicious they were. Eren, of course, wanted to deny all of it, but the facts were there.
The flash back ends and Eren pretends to not know anything and acts as if they are crazy for saying what they are saying. It works, but only for a little while. Reiner can’t take it anymore and decides that they must act now. He takes of his sling that held his broken arm and immediately heals, a show of his titan power. Mikasa comes to attack the both of them, realizing what they were about to do. But before she can finish them, flashes of yellow light appear and Reiner and Bertholdt both transform into the Armoured titan and the Colossal titan respectively.
They take Eren and Ymir and start to flee from the others, fully intending to go back to whatever village they came from. But as they are escaping, Eren turns into a titan, mad that they had betrayed them.
This was an intense episode and a big reveal happened. We find out who Reiner and Bertholdt is and considering what they had done 5 years ago, it’s not a small matter. They broke the wall, let titans in, and indirectly killed Eren’s mother in the process.
The fact that they are trying to steal Eren and Ymir away is not going to settle well and I can see Eren refusing to go with them without a fight. I’m really excited to see what’s going to happen and whether we will be able to get some answers to why this is all happening.
Why did Reiner and Bertholdt destroy the wall five years ago? What is their village? Who are they? How did they turn into titans? What is their purpose of fighting against humanity instead of protecting it?
So many questions.
